Fine Arts Record Label
York University's Faculty of Fine Arts embarked on a new venture in digital recording and publishing with the launch of the York Fine Arts label in 1996.
The establishment of the label grew out of the desire to recognize and celebrate the resident talent and expertise in the Faculty. Spanning a variety of formats -- CD, video, CD ROM – York Fine Arts productions draw on the talents of artists, performers, educators and producers within Fine Arts and the larger York University community. The label's executive producer is York digital arts professor and Music Department chair, Michael Coghlan.
Releases on the York Fine Arts label are issued in two series: the York Artists Signature Series, featuring music and spoken word CDs, and the York Learning Series, presenting courseware and other educational material. The featured artists, scholars and producers donate their time and work to the project. Proceeds from sales of York Fine Arts productions go towards program and student support.
